The Department of Food and Public Distribution in India is closely monitoring the market price of wheat. During the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2024, the country achieved a wheat production of 112 million metric tons (MT). The Food Corporation of India (FCI) procured approximately 266 LMT of wheat by June 11, 2024, during this season. After meeting the requirements for the Public Distribution System (PDS) and other welfare schemes (approximately 184 LMT), there remains sufficient wheat stock to address market fluctuations.
Importantly, the wheat stock has consistently adhered to quarterly buffer norms, and there are currently no proposals to alter the duty structure on wheat imports.
